Farm Visit

Each year, Windflower Farm hosts an end-of-season open house in Valley Falls, New York. This annual celebration, tour, potluck, and camp-out is a highlight of our year.

This year’s open house will be the weekend of September 7-8, and is timed to coincide with a local cheese tour (which takes place at several nearby sheep, goat, and dairy cow farms and wineries) and the last of the good swimming on the Battenkill River.

The open house typically begins midday Saturday with a tour of Windflower Farm and a wine, beer and cheese hour featuring local live music and homebrews. Go for a tractor ride and see the greenhouses, ducks, chickens, sheep, and flower fields.

Share a potluck supper with CSA members from all over New York City, Farmers Ted and Jan Blomgren, their son Nate, and farm staff. After supper, gather around the campfire for music and s’mores. All members are welcome to camp on the farm (most do) and take in the star-filled sky. (You can also opt to stay at a nearby motel or B&B.)

On Sunday morning, the Blomgren family serves a generous farm breakfast, after which you might swim in the Battenkill River, tour Victory View Winery, attend the Washington County Fair or Cambridge Farmers’ Market, visit the free-range chickens that provide our eggs at Davis Family Farms, tour the Borden Dairy Farm, go to the horse races at the historic track in Saratoga, check out the Argyl Brewery store, or head up to the Battenkill Creamery for an ice cream sundae.

Bring your own tent, sleeping bags, flashlight, sturdy footwear, a dish to pass at the potluck, and an instrument to play around the campfire. Carpooling is encouraged, and a group bus rental can be arranged if there’s enough interest. We look forward to seeing you there!
