WINDFLOWER FARM OPEN HOUSE & CAMP-OUT
Each year, Windflower Farm hosts an end-of-season open house in Valley Falls, New York. This annual harvest celebration, tour, potluck, and camp-out is a highlight of our year. While we don’t know whether the farm visit will happen in 2020, we hope for the best.
The open house takes place in late August or early September. It begins midday Saturday with a tour of Windflower Farm and a wine, beer and cheese hour featuring local live music and home brews. Go for a tractor ride and see the greenhouses, ducks, chickens, sheep, and flower fields. Share a potluck supper with CSA members from all over New York City, Farmers Ted and Jan Blomgren, their son Nate, and farm staff. After supper, gather around the campfire for music and s’mores. All members are welcome to bring a tent and camp on the farm (most do) and take in the star-filled sky. (There are also nearby motels and B&Bs.)
On Sunday morning, the Blomgren family serves a generous farm breakfast, after which guests often choose swim in the Battenkill River, tour Victory View Winery, attend the Washington County Fair, check out a local cheese tour or the Cambridge Farmers’ Market, visit the free-range chickens that provide our eggs at Davis Family Farms, tour the Borden Dairy Farm, go to the horse races at the historic track in Saratoga, check out the Argyl Brewery store, or head up to the Battenkill Creamery for an ice cream sundae.
Bring your own tent, sleeping bags, flashlight, sturdy footwear, a dish to pass at the potluck, and an instrument to play around the campfire. Carpooling is encouraged, and a group bus rental can be arranged if there’s enough interest. We hope to see you there!
