What to Expect

Picking up your share:

Share pickup occurs at Fountain Studios at 604 Grand Avenue every Tuesday evening, from 5:30 to 8:15 PM. You’ll need to bring your own bags and boxes to get everything home. CSA share distributions are run by your fellow CSA members, and they end distribution promptly at 8:15 PM. At that point, all produce remaining is donated to a local soup kitchen. Unfortunately, we can’t keep the distribution running any later than 8:15 PM or hold shares for late-coming members, so if you can’t make it to distribution, your best option is to get a friend or neighbor to go pick it up for you!

What’s in a share?

The contents of your share will vary from week to week, depending on the time of year. For an idea of what to expect, check out our share pics on instagram.

A Year of CSA Shares

Here is a list of everything that came in a Prospect Park CSA share over the course of a year. Keep in mind, though, that every growing season is different and that past results do not guarantee future results. For example, last season was great for tomatoes and corn, but not so good for sweet potatoes or basil. Two years ago we had a bumper crop of peaches, while other years have been better for apples.

Week 1:

Vegetable Share:

  • 1 head of Choy
  • 1 bunch of Scallions
  • 1 head of Red or Green Leaf Lettuce
  • 1 bunch of Red Russian Kale
  • 1 bunch of Radishes
  • 1 pot of Genovese Basil
  • 2 total of Ruby Red Chard, Arugula and/or Happy Rich

  • 1 quart of wonderfully smelling strawberries from Yonder Farms

Week 2:

Vegetable Share:

  • 1 head green or red leaf lettuce
  • 1 head Joi Choy
  • 1 bunch red or green chard
  • 1 pot Cilantro
  • 1 bunch radishes
  • 1 bunch green onions
  • 1 bunch Red Russian kale
  • 1 bunch either Arugula Or Happy Rich

Fruit Share:

  • 1  quart strawberries
Week 3:

 

Vegetable Share:

  • 1 head of Romaine Lettuce
  • 1 head of Joi Choy
  • 1 bunch of EITHER Lacinato Kale OR Red Russian Kale
  • 1 bunch of Chard
  • 1 bunch of Scallions
  • 3 garlic scapes
  • 1 bunch of Kohlrabi
  • 1 pot of Cilantro OR 1 Bunch of Purple Basil
  • 1 bunch of Broccoli

Fruit Share:

  • 1 quart of Strawberries
  • 1 bunch of Rhubarb

Week 4:

Vegetable Share:

  • 1 bunch Scallions
  • 3 stems garlic scrapes
  • 1 pot dill
  • 2 bulbs kohlrabi
  • 1 head red leaf lettuce
  • Either 2 cucumbers OR 5 tomatoes (!!!!!)
  • 3 bunches TOTAL from the following: Yakina Savoy, Red Komatsuna, Chard, Kale, Tokyo Bekana

Fruit Share:

  • 1 quart strawberries and 1 bunch of rhubarb

Week 5:

Vegetable Share:

  • 1 bunch of Turnips
  • 3 patty pan squash
  • 1 bunch of Basil
  • 1 head of Red Lettuce
  • 1 head of Curly lettuce
  • 1 bunch of onions
  • Choice of 2 bunches total from: Collards, Chard, AND/OR Kale

Fruit Share:

  • 1 quart of cherries

Week 6:

Vegetable Share:

  • Hakurai Turnips- 1 bunch
  • Onions – 1 bunch
  • Cucumbers – 4
  • Yellow Squash – 2
  • Lettuce – 1 head
  • Kale – 1 bunch
  • Tomatoes – 1 medium red, 4 Juliets
  • Thai basil – 1 pot

Fruit Share:

  • 1 quart of cherries

Week 7:

Vegetable Share:

  • 1 head of Romaine Lettuce
  • 1 head of Curly Lettuce
  • 1 bunch of EITHER Chard OR Kale
  • 1 small & 1 large squash
  • 4 Asian Cucumbers
  • 2 Peppers
  • 1 bunch of Onions

  • 1 bunch Basil OR 2 Sprigs Rosemary
  • 1 large tomato AND 1 medium tomato AND 14 yellow juliets AND EITHER 2 yellow plums OR 5 black cherries
  • 2 lbs (1 quart full) Potatoes
  • 1 bunch Onions
  • 1 Asian Cucumber
  • 1 large Squash fruit
  • 1 head lettuce
  • 1 bunch radishes

Fruit Share:

  • 1 bunch plums

Week 10:

Vegetable Share: 

  • Choose 1 dill, cilantro or basil.
  • 1 Eggplant
  • 1 bunch Onions
  • 2 Cukes
  • 1 head Lettuce 1 head

  • 2 red rocket chiles
  • 2 small squash
  • 1 lb. beans
